Eyecare tips

Eyecare

With Winter days ahead and cold weather on the horizon we have advice for you from a local optician on how you can best protect your eyes during the cold spell.

Top tips for dry eyes

  • Use lubricating eye drops to treat watery eyes because of dry eye syndrome
  • Avoid activities that aggravate symptoms of dry eye such sitting near a fire or heater
  • When indoors, place a bowl of water underneath the radiator to add humidity back into the air
  • Wearing protective glasses when outside will also help shield eyes
  • Try anti-fog products, including lens cleaners and anti-fog cloths from Specsavers that are designed to repel condensation from lenses to help prevent them from steaming up in the change in temperature.

Cold weather can have a huge impact on our bodies – including our eyes but we can help you to your eyes during the cold spell.

Screentime

I think it’s also important to be aware of how much time you’re spending looking at screens while sheltering from the cold. Try following the 20:20:20 rule where you look up from your screen every 20 minutes at something 20 feet away for 20 seconds. This will help minimise eye strain and further alleviate dry eye syndrome.
